As a pretty London-based Nigerian, I have always been proud of my natural body shape. Growing up, I struggled with the pressure to conform to the Western standards of beauty that surrounded me, but I soon learned to embrace my curves, my full hips, and my luscious curves. Today, I am proud to flaunt my natural body shape and the confidence that comes with it.
In a society that often portrays a narrow definition of beauty, it is refreshing to see more women embrace their natural body shape. As a Nigerian woman, I have always been inspired by the beauty of our curvy African women, who are celebrated for their hourglass figures and voluptuousness. It is a beauty that defies the Western standards of stick-thin models and promotes a healthier, more natural body image.
Of course, embracing one’s natural body shape does not come without its challenges. From body shaming to unrealistic beauty standards, women are often bombarded with negative messages about their bodies. It can be difficult to navigate these messages and learn to love and accept ourselves the way we are. However, it is important to remember that our natural body shape is what makes us unique and beautiful, and it should be celebrated and embraced
